Call for class of 2013 senior models...

I say this every year, but holy cow, another year has pretty much flown by! With the winter being a slower season for us, it's a great opportunity to get caught up on the "behind the scenes" things of the studio, but the winter too has just zipped by. Wow. With it warming up outside so early though, I'm getting ready to head back out and incorporate the outdoors once again in my shoots!

What better time then on this gorgeous Thursday to put out our annual call to the upcoming class of seniors for models! We're looking for students in the class of 2013 who love to be in front of the camera and wouldn't mind earning some free shoots and products! There's no perfect look or size, just joyful, outgoing and unique individuals for us to try some new conceptions with!

Thanksgiving week studio hours...

Shel and I are loading the car pretty much as I write! We're off to document a wedding at the Chicago Cathedral Saturday and then down to Ohio for a little turkey time with my grandparents. So the studio will be having limited hours starting today, Friday Nov. 18.

Our wunderkind graphic designer Ben will be available for pickups on the 18th from 9:30-11:30 and 1:30-5:00 and then on Monday the 21st 9:30-11:30 and 1:30-5:30.

Joan will then be in and available for both phone calls and pickups on Tuesday the 22nd from 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-5:30. We will be closed starting the 23rd and back to normal hours Monday the 28th. We'll be checking email periodically so please feel free to contact us through there as well.

A motion picture...

One of my favorite scenes from Kung Fu Panda is the opening and closing credits where it's not your typical animated characters but the very flat animation done in multiple layers, kind of like old school Super Nintendo games! I've always wanted to try editing photographs in that way for display on a computer but haven't made the foray yet. Soon however as I've taken my first baby steps after seeing a "cinemagraph" online a couple months ago and then again yesterday morning. So just before wrapping up our shoot with Alexa yesterday, I created some images for the sole purpose of creating my own motion picture!

What do you think?! After creating this one, I definitely have other ideas for future ones! Until then, I'll have to be content with our tabletop "Super NES" style studio324 display! Just ask to see it the next time you're here, I think it's pretty cool!

So the winter is winding down and we're off and running with seniors from the class of 2012! Every year, time just keeps on cruising by faster and faster. Seems like we just sent off the 2011 senior portraits to all the yearbooks and here we are starting with a new class! Well, as usual, I'm pretty pumped! After a lethargic and ridiculously cold winter, it always feels wonderful to get behind the camera working with "seniors!"

I met Alexa back when she was probably in middle school through our church's youth group, the Gate, so it's wild to be creating her senior portraits! Again, time blazing flying. I'm pretty sure Alexa would be the definition of joy though! Always with a smile on, always the one with the bubbly energy!

NEEDED! Class of 2012 models!

I can't believe it's almost spring already! We've seen the temperature swing close to 80 degrees, the snow is melting off of the ski hills too soon, but I am grateful that it's no longer "Russian Roulette" when turning a corner on the street!

With the spring comes a new year of seniors and I'm super pumped to get this year's going! We've busy working behind the scenes here on updating our website, blog and a ton of other things so keep your eyes open for that!

Oh it's Friday...

and I felt like putting something a little different together! A few weeks ago I had the privilege of working with Jilian on her senior shoot! She was a blast, great outfits, looks and all that! But she also brought along a random bouquet of flowers. We did a few cool shots with them and then at the very end, well, we were done with them! I've been wanting to try something along these lines and pulled it off photographically with the soccer flip-throw that was up on our mall kiosk and Facebook. So a little different approach here and one that can only be appreciated on the web as compared to a final print!

Mmm, soccer...

So tomorrow the World Cup starts and US plays England at 1:30, I'll be one hour into an eight hour wedding. Bittersweet. 

I've been playing soccer since I was five and still play to this day on different adult leagues here in Rochester! Oh how I love soccer! I've even coached my son's Lucas's team the past couple seasons! So I'm pretty excited to see the World Cup come around again. Michelle and I would both LOVE to travel to the games someday! I just noticed in 2014, the next time the World Cup will be held, it'll be in Brazil! Perhaps that'll be our chance!

I also LOVE to photograph sports portraits! Walter Iooss Jr. is pretty much my photography hero if you will and these style of sports portraits is pretty much what got me going in the portrait side of photography from my photojournalism days. This particular shot of Century senior Jenna is definitely a little different than other images I've created and people over on Facebook have REALLY enjoyed it, so I thought I'd share it here too! (Be sure to add me as a friend and "like" our FB page!)

 

Hopefully the US can hold their own this weekend! If they don't come out firing, my boy Lucas will be ready for the 2022 World Cup! Ha!
 

Friday rouser...

It's snowing out, my shoot was rescheduled, and I have a few more minutes before launching the weekend with dinner at a friend's house so I thought I should update this cobweb ridden blog! The below photo takes me back to when it was a little warmer and a little more sunny out! I shot Brenna a couple months ago and this is easily one of my favorite shots from the shoot! It's always great when a client really lets who they are out in a shoot so that combined with some amazing dance abilities, we had a blast! She's now off in London studying dance at Trintity Laban. I could upload a dozen super shots from our shoot together but I think that's why I don't update the blog more! Too many other things going on right now to get a lot of images ready. Anyway, I hope you enjoy and I hope you have an incredible weekend! Shawn

Chad+Kathy+one+one in the oven makes great!

I used to somewhat enjoy watching the "Josh and Kate plus six makes eight" or something but has anyone else noticed that it's turned into an hour long infomercial about wherever they're at? The mouse movie, a ski lodge, the Globetrotters. Gross. I'm glad they're getting in on some free stuff for sure but the producers really should work on making it a little less transparent! Anyway....

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend! My sister made a fantastic anti-ham meal and we wrapped up the evening with the dessert that I made along with Jonas' help!

Before the weekend came, I had the opportunity to work with one of our first Rochester wedding clients! Chad and Kathy will be celebrating their fifth anniversary this summer and they came in for their second maternity session. A maternity shoot has its own challenges and unique quirks but it was a blast to try some different ideas with these guys! They're a complete joy and were up for any idea!

So awesome to work with you guys again, Chad and Kathy! I pray the rest of your pregnancy goes well and we're excited to meet your new baby boy/girl!

Over and out...

Well, almost every Friday, LOL!

My weekend is off to a great start after a client stopped by the studio and dropped off some homemade brownies! They know the way to this photographer's heart! Which also reminded me that I need to get my piece of the Easter meal ready to go. My sister Colleen is having the family over to her new home near Silver Lake for the holiday dinner and I'm putting together a Flourless Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Glaze. It's pretty killer!

Several months ago I started cooking and preparing my family's meals and I've fallen in love with the kitchen, but not the dirty dishes side of it! I've found tremendous relaxation while working a meal and listening to music. Awesome! I owe my new found love of cooking to the woman behind the blog Simply Recipes. She posts meals she's whipping together, how she does it, photos of said meals, stories, it's made cooking understandable to me! Anyway...

So it's almost time for me to start creating a new class of senior images! This winter has flown by way to fast in the way that I have WAY TO MUCH left to get done before the busy summer season! But I'm of course completely happy with the current sun and "warmth," so no complaining too much!

Right now though, I'm looking for a few upcoming seniors in the class of 2010 to be a part of the Fagan Studios modeling team! It's an awesome way to get free shoots, free products and be featured in the studio's marketing pieces!
